To all fans worldwide,
Earlier this week clubs from around Europe broke away from FIFA and UEFA to form the Super League; a competition similar to the champions League but where all the founding clubs don’t get relegated and there for have no incentive to invest money into the club. This proposal would undermine the culture around football and would be a slap in the face to all fans. This was a way to Americanize European football in which only money matters and the opinion of the fans doesn’t. The greasy rich owners of the top clubs thought they were getting away with it but the fans spoke up. On Tuesday many of the clubs in the super league withdrew from the competition. This is proof that the rich don’t control our football clubs and the fans still have the final say. This wasn’t just about football, because football is not just a game it is a culture, it kept us out of trouble, comforted us when we were down, and gave us joy. Money can’t buy fans, and money will never buy the joy, and unity that football brings us. This week we saved football and it wasn’t thanks to the celebrities or the government it was thanks to the fans who spoke up against greed and injustice.
